Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya – My Review

“Ulagathula evalavo ponnunga irundhum.. na en jessie ‘a love pannen…!!!”

The last word that I uttered in theatre, as the frame moved up from simbu to the poster of the movie JESSIE, where the credit dissolved out into Gautham from Karthick, was – “BEAUTIFUL” . Guys..believe it or not.. this word wasn’t something that was predetermined in my mind to deliver rather that was something spontaneous that came out directly from my heart!

Let me admit, truly I felt like I was turning through the pages of a beautiful romantic Indian-novel revealing an aching & intense love . This typical Gautham Vasudev menon’s product is all about ‘Love’. The agony that would cross any young mind when its trapped on the clutches of love was amazingly delivered through gautham’s straight-from-heart script. The dubious fate of a young man’s love forms the crust of the story. You can witness all your toughest days in life fighting out for your love portrayed together with unexpected dose of humour all through the first half. Considering these tough times to tackle I even wondered ‘Why the heck to fell in love & suffer like a fucken stray dog!’. Soulful Music of Rahman hypnotized me all through, though I gathered my senses within seconds to go with the movie’s flow every now and then.

Karthik , a mechanical engineering grad, is all passionate about cinema with the dream of becoming a film maker, fells for Jessie, a charming software professional the moment he saw her. I believe Gautham loves the thunderbolt effect that struck Michael on the sight of Appollonia in THE GODFATHER. Exactly the same way karthik gets struck instantaneously as he himself narrates, “enna adichuthu antha kathal…”. Crazy love drives karthik mad, running behind Jessie all through, consequeltly framing out the times of crests and troughs in his pathetic love. Karthik traverses his pages all the way with his friendly mentor ganesh’s support, Jessie’s brother Jerry’s arrogance , her father’s adamancy and finally, a strange amoebatic-jessie. To be more simple Jessie was pictured cute & confused. A sexy stylish girl with loads of immaturity behind her, which complicates Karthik’s love even more.

Adding to the elegance of the gautham’s script and the spirit of Rahman’s touch, comes out the refreshingly ravishing visuals of Manoj Paramahansa. I was thoroughly impressed with this man already in the movie ‘eeram’. Catering to my eager expectations his camera has produced some stunning frames for his Stylish counterpart.

Alas! Just when you were high on your emotional drama and about to predict the happy ending, the director taps your back and says ‘its not a fairy tale dude..rather.. REALITY’, taking you through the line that divides reel and real. Frankly, I was dumbstruck! Gautham was unique and exceptional in the way he brought out the realistic essence in the ending note. Hats off Mr.Gautham! Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya is the most beautiful love story I’ve ever witnessed!
